Facebook outage: The aftermath and impact on users

Facebook returns online after around 30 minute outage; Instagram still facing issues

On Monday, October 07, 2024, Facebook finally resumed normal service after a blackout that lasted approximately 30 minutes. However, Instagram was still experiencing difficulties, with users only able to access a blank home page. While some Facebook users encountered slower loading times following the restoration of the platform a few minutes before 10:00pm, Meta Status indicated that certain tools were still experiencing disruptions.

Earlier, users of Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger reported being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts at 9:21pm. Upon attempting to log back in, individuals were met with a message stating, "Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes."

One user from Bangladesh shared their experience with The Business Standard, stating, "Facebook just logged me out from my phone and PC while I was working. I tried to log back in but it didn't allow it."

According to Downdetector, the issue was global in nature. Users expressed their frustrations in the comments section, with one individual mentioning, "Both mobile and Website are logged out and I can't change my password. I thought I got hacked." Another user confirmed the outage, writing, "Facebook is indeed down."
