Not a day seems to go by without generative-AI products like ChatGPT making the news, however, according to a new study, few people are actually making regular use of the tools. The study conducted by the Reuters Institute and Oxford University involved 6,000 respondents from the U.S., U.K., France, Denmark, Japan, and Argentina.

Usage of Generative-AI Tools

Researchers discovered that OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the most widely used generative-AI tool, surpassing competitors like Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot in usage. Despite the popularity of generative AI tools over the past year and a half, the study revealed that only a small percentage of users are consistently utilizing these tools in their daily lives.

Demographic Insights

The research indicated that younger individuals are more inclined to use generative AI tools regularly. Among the respondents, 56% of those between 18 and 24 years old have tried ChatGPT, compared to only 16% of those aged 55 and above.

It also highlights the uncertainty among the public regarding the benefits or drawbacks of generative AI in society.
