Google Gemini AI brings summaries to PDFs, makes filling Forms easier
Google is enhancing the integration of Gemini AI within Workspace by introducing new functionalities that streamline user interaction with PDFs, Google Forms, and other types of documents. These updates are designed to help users combat information overload by providing on-demand summaries and context-aware actions, eliminating the need to open multiple tabs or read through entire documents.
Commencing on June 12, Workspace users started to receive Gemini-powered file summarization for PDFs and Google Forms, a strategic move to extend Google Drive’s intelligent summaries to a wider range of formats. When users access a PDF in Drive, Gemini now generates a succinct summary card featuring clickable options customized to the document, such as "draft a sample proposal" or "list interview questions."
"Upon opening a PDF, Gemini will now proactively summarize the file's contents and display relevant, clickable actions, including options like 'Draft a sample proposal' or 'List interview questions based on this resume'," stated Google in a recent blog post.
This feature, available in more than 20 languages, presents these actions conveniently in the Drive side panel for swift follow-up actions.
Gemini AI in Google Forms
Within Google Forms, Gemini now has the ability to analyze short-answer and paragraph responses, offering instant summaries that highlight key themes. The AI takes into account the form’s title, description, and responses to identify patterns and provide actionable insights. This functionality is activated once a question garners more than three responses and is initially limited to English, with a wider rollout scheduled to commence on June 26.
Another productivity-enhancing feature is the “Help Me Create” functionality in Forms, powered by Gemini. By articulating their requirements, such as a feedback form, survey, or quote request, users can leverage Gemini to automatically create the form. Additionally, users can reference supporting documents like Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs, making it particularly useful for tasks such as automatically generating client questionnaires from product catalogues. This tool will debut in English and will begin its rollout on July 7.
