Gemini adds document upload and analysis for free users | Android Central
Google is bringing a feature once exclusive to paid Gemini Advanced subscribers to all free users. Free users can now upload documents for analysis on the Gemini app on iOS and Android, plus the Gemini web client. This was announced on Feb. 20 in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"Document upload is now available to all Gemini users," the company wrote. Users can upload multiple Google Docs, PDFs, and Word documents from Google Drive or their device. This feature provides quick summaries, personalized feedback, and actionable insights, streamlining workflows and saving time.

How to use the document upload feature:
To use the feature in the Gemini app, simply write a prompt in the text field and tap the "plus" icon to add a file using the Files or Drive buttons. Gemini can intake files stored physically on the device or in the cloud via Google Drive, and can handle multiple files within its context window. The uploaded files will be analyzed to provide responses in the proper context.
Google advises users to check Gemini responses for accuracy and avoid sharing private information with the platform.

While the free version of Gemini now offers document upload and analysis, there are still reasons to consider Gemini Advanced for file analysis. Certain unsupported file types in the free version include code documents or spreadsheets. It is also unclear how much information the free version can intake before reaching limits.
Comparatively, users with a paid Google AI Premium subscription ($20 per month) can access Gemini Advanced, which can handle up to one million tokens.

Google continues to make paid features available to free users over time with Gemini, distinguishing it from other chatbots in the market.
