Google is enhancing its services by incorporating its Gemini AI model into more of its core products. The popularity of ChatGPT has driven Google to expedite this integration, particularly evident with the addition of AI-generated backgrounds to Google Meet on Android.
Initially available only on the web version of Google Meet, the feature now extends to Android devices. Users will soon have the ability to create personalized backgrounds using Gemini AI. By entering a prompt, users can prompt Gemini to generate a background tailored to their specifications, offering endless possibilities for creativity.
Background on Gemini AI:
The concept of Gemini’s AI-generated backgrounds was first introduced in 2023 through Google's Workspace Labs initiative. The feature was later made accessible to more users with subscriptions to Google Workspace or Google One AI Premium. However, Android users had to wait a bit longer for this functionality to reach their devices.
How it Works:
In the latest version of the Android Google Meet app (version 277.0.693808058.duo.android_20241105.16_p1), users can find the "Generate a background" option under the Effects menu. By selecting this option, users can input a prompt and choose from various visual styles such as Photography, Sci-fi, Illustration, 3D animation, Fantasy, and Monochrome. After submission, the camera view will display multiple background options to select from.
Additionally, to celebrate the holiday season, a Christmas-themed background option has been introduced, exclusive to Android users for now. The web version of Google Meet does not yet feature this festive background.
