Eminem Sues Mark Zuckerberg Over Alleged Unauthorized Use Of His Music
Recently, it was reported that Eminem has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms Inc. and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. The lawsuit alleges that Eminem's music was used without his consent on Meta's AI and metaverse platforms.
The legal complaint specifically mentions that iconic tracks like "Lose Yourself" and "Without Me" were utilized on Meta's platforms without proper authorization or compensation to Eminem or his team. It is stated that Eight Mile Style, the entity managing Eminem's music catalog, controls 243 tracks that were found on Meta's music collection, appearing in numerous videos across the platforms.
Despite Eminem's efforts to negotiate a licensing agreement with Meta, the music in question was allegedly duplicated and synchronized with various visual content on the platforms. The lawsuit further alleges that Meta was aware of this unauthorized usage but failed to take action, suggesting that the platform may have encouraged such infringements to enhance user engagement and generate more advertising revenue.
According to the lawsuit, advertising revenue reportedly accounted for a significant portion of Meta's total earnings in 2023, comprising 97.8% of the company's revenue stream.
