Meta's vice-president of product for generative AI, Connor Hayes, stated that these AI characters will have bios, profile pictures, and be able to generate and share content powered by AI on the platform.

In 2024, Meta shifted its focus towards AI content, including the development of the AI Studio. This studio enables US Instagram account holders to create AI characters for conversations. The feature has gained popularity, resulting in the creation of numerous AI boyfriends and girlfriends.
Reports indicate that hundreds of thousands of users have utilized the AI Studio feature since its launch in July.
