Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with voice-activated AI debut in India

On Tuesday, Meta launched its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India, a significant move in the company's hardware expansion within one of its key consumer technology markets. Developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, these smart glasses are embedded with Meta AI and are now offered in various styles, including the new Skyler frame, priced between Rs 29,900 and Rs 35,700 for select models. The glasses are currently available for pre-order through different online and offline partner platforms.

Availability and Features

Originally introduced in the US in 2023, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are now accessible in India through major retail channels, making it one of the initial Asian markets to experience Meta's latest wearable technology. The glasses are equipped with a 12 MP camera capable of capturing high-quality photos and 1080p videos up to 60 seconds long. Users have the option to livestream content directly to Facebook or Instagram and utilize the open-ear speakers to enjoy improved audio quality with enhanced bass and clarity.

They also feature five microphones for better voice capture, enabling functions such as receiving calls and listening to music conveniently. The glasses are compatible with various frame styles, including the iconic Wayfarer and the newly launched Skyler, with choices of sun, clear, or prescription lenses. A charging case is provided, offering up to 36 hours of usage, while the carry case serves as a portable battery pack.

Meta AI Integration and Voice Activation

One of the remarkable elements of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is the integration of Meta AI, activated by the voice prompt "Hey Meta." Initial interactions with the AI assistant in India will be text-based, with plans to introduce visual search features, already available in markets like the US, in the near future.
