ChatGPT launches screen sharing and real-time video analysis for...
OpenAI has introduced real-time video and screen sharing capabilities to its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, as part of its Advanced Voice Mode. This feature was showcased during OpenAI's '12 of Shipmas' event. Users now have the option to screen share with ChatGPT, allowing them to seek feedback or hints for solving complex math problems. A video icon is visible on the bottom left corner next to the ChatGPT chat bar, which users can click on to initiate the video. To share their screen, users can access the three-dot menu and select 'Share Screen'.
Vision Feature Development
The vision feature was initially teased in May when GPT-4o demonstrated the ability to observe a game and describe the ongoing events in a natural conversational tone. However, the implementation of the vision feature faced delays as OpenAI deemed it not yet ready for production. While the Advanced Voice Mode was eventually rolled out in September for certain ChatGPT users, it did not include the vision feature at that time.
Availability and Rollout
The real-time video and screen sharing feature is currently accessible on iOS and Android mobile applications for ChatGPT Teams, Plus, and Pro users. It is set to be gradually extended to ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu subscribers starting in January. Nonetheless, the advanced voice mode will not be accessible in several European countries.
Google recently announced a similar feature under Project Astra, which is currently in the testing phase on Android devices. Moreover, OpenAI introduced 'Santa Mode' as a preset voice option in ChatGPT to celebrate the festive season.
