DuckDuckGo AI Chat feature finally makes ChatGPT private
Today, DuckDuckGo introduces its AI Chat feature, offering an anonymous way to engage with popular AI chatbots like Open AI’s GPT 3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta Llama 3, and Mistral’s Mixtral 8x7B.
According to a press release, DuckDuckGo AI Chat is available for free with a daily limit and can be easily disabled. The privacy-centric company ensures that users can engage in private conversations without their data being used for AI training.
Privacy First Approach
DuckDuckGo aims to make online privacy effortless for users. The company believes that individuals should navigate the internet without compromising their privacy. In the words of Nirzar Pangarkar, DuckDuckGo’s lead designer, “We meet people where they are, developing products that add a layer of privacy to the everyday things they do online."
To access DuckDuckGo AI Chat, visit duck.ai or duckduckgo.com/chat. Once on these platforms, users can select a chat model and begin chatting anonymously, similar to DuckDuckGo’s search functionality.
Anonymous Chats and Data Protection
All conversations on DuckDuckGo AI Chat are entirely anonymous, ensuring that they cannot be linked back to any individual. The platform also replaces users' IP addresses with its own, safeguarding privacy further. Additionally, the Fire Button allows users to clear chats instantly.
DuckDuckGo confirms that it neither saves nor stores chats. While the chat model providers may temporarily store data, all metadata is removed to prevent any associations with users.
Future Plans
Although DuckDuckGo AI Chat is currently free within set limits, the company intends to maintain this accessibility while potentially introducing a paid plan for expanded features and chat models in the future.
