Google Search Unveils "Audio Overviews": Listen to Search Results with AI-Powered Summaries
The previously introduced voice summarization feature in the NotebookLM service, known as Audio Overviews, is now being integrated into Google Search. This enhancement enables users to listen to search results through spoken summaries and engage with the content via virtual dialogue, offering a more comprehensive grasp of key information.
This functionality is particularly well-suited for searches that require detailed explanations—such as historical events, the origins of cultural celebrations, or biographical overviews. Much like NotebookLM, it presents the core content through a conversational format led by two virtual hosts.
Playback Customization and Source Verification
Users can adjust the playback speed, ranging from 0.25x to 2x, and verify that the AI-generated summaries cite the original source pages, ensuring the accuracy and depth of the presented information. Additionally, users can pose questions to the virtual hosts or dive deeper into specific topics through the in-depth exploration mode.

Language Support and Accessibility
In a previous update, Google expanded NotebookLM’s language support to over 50 languages. This includes Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, and Korean—allowing users worldwide to easily consolidate documents and transform them into audio-based dialogues. This not only facilitates auditory “reading” but also opens the door for creative use in podcast production.
Availability and Testing Phase
Currently, this feature remains in the testing phase and is available to users who enroll via Google Labs.
