OpenAI opens ChatGPT's Memory feature to more users: What is it and how does it work?
OpenAI has recently expanded the access to its ChatGPT feature, Memory, to a wider group of users. This upgrade allows the AI system to retain queries, prompts, and personalized modifications permanently. Initially available to a limited set of users, Memory is now accessible to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus outside of Europe or Korea.
According to OpenAI, the Memory feature is now open to all ChatGPT Plus users. Utilizing Memory is straightforward - users can simply initiate a new chat and inform ChatGPT about any information they want it to remember. The feature can be easily toggled on or off in settings, with the restriction that it is currently not available in Europe or Korea. OpenAI has also hinted at the possibility of introducing Memory to Team, Enterprise, and other GPTs in the future.
Enhancing User Experience
Introduced in February this year, the Memory feature was initially tested by a select group of users. OpenAI illustrated the functionality of Memory with an example, stating, "You’ve explained that you prefer meeting notes to have headlines, bullets, and action items summarized at the bottom. ChatGPT remembers this and recaps meetings this way."
ChatGPT's Memory feature plays a crucial role in personalizing the AI system's responses, thereby enhancing its effectiveness in catering to individual preferences. Users have the flexibility to explicitly instruct ChatGPT on what to remember or allow it to learn from their interactions. This capability aligns ChatGPT with other similar applications and their algorithms, enabling it to memorize user preferences and instructions. Consequently, users no longer need to repeatedly remind ChatGPT of the same information with each conversation.
