Dell Technologies Develops AI Factory with NVIDIA GPUs to
Recently, Michael Dell, CEO and chairman of Dell Technologies, unveiled plans for the development of the Dell AI Factory. This innovative project will harness the power of NVIDIA GPUs to drive Grok, the AI model developed by xAI – a company founded by Elon Musk. Musk has dedicated significant resources to enhance xAI's computational capabilities. In 2023, he acquired tens of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, with the Grok 2 model alone requiring around 20,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. Musk has also hinted that upcoming iterations like Grok 3 will need approximately 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips. The goal is to have a new supercomputer up and running by fall 2025.
Collaboration with Oracle
There are talks of a potential collaboration with Oracle to build a large-scale system. Once completed, the interconnected network of NVIDIA H100 GPUs is projected to be at least four times larger than the current largest GPU clusters, as mentioned by Musk in a presentation to investors in May.
Advancements in AI Models
In April 2023, xAI unveiled Grok-1.5V, a cutting-edge multimodal model. Grok boasts impressive text processing capabilities and can effectively analyze various forms of visual data, ranging from documents and diagrams to screenshots and photographs.
Competition in the AI Landscape
Yann LeCun, the chief of Meta AI, disclosed that Meta has invested a substantial $30 billion in NVIDIA GPUs to train their AI models. This underscores the fierce competition and substantial investments being made in AI infrastructure across the industry.
