OpenAI says ChatGPT's weekly users have grown to 200 million...
On Thursday, AI startup OpenAI announced that its chatbot, ChatGPT, has reached over 200 million weekly active users, which is twice the number it had in the previous fall season. Launched in 2022, ChatGPT is capable of producing responses that closely resemble human-like interactions based on user inputs. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously stated in November that ChatGPT had 100 million weekly active users.
Wide Adoption and Growth
According to OpenAI, 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies are utilizing their products. The usage of their automated Application Programming Interface (API), enabling seamless communication between software applications, has doubled since the introduction of ChatGPT-4o mini in July. ChatGPT-4o mini is a compact and cost-effective AI model designed to enhance accessibility and reduce energy consumption, thus opening doors to a broader customer base.
Impact on AI Industry
The success of ChatGPT has significantly boosted the popularity of AI technology and contributed to the rapid growth in the valuation of OpenAI, headquartered in San Francisco. In other news, OpenAI and Anthropic, both AI startups, have secured agreements with the U.S. government for collaborative research, testing, and evaluation of their AI models, as reported by the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute.
Reports also suggest that tech giants such as Apple and Nvidia are currently in discussions regarding potential investments in OpenAI. This investment round aims to value the creator of ChatGPT above $100 billion. Additionally, Microsoft, a prominent supporter of OpenAI, is expected to participate in the funding round as well.
