Praveen Dorna on LinkedIn: ChatGPT just launched "Tasks" - One Step Closer to Personal Assistants
OpenAI has recently introduced Tasks in beta, an innovative feature that allows users to delegate tasks to ChatGPT for future completion. Whether it's scheduling reminders or daily actions, ChatGPT can handle it effortlessly, making life simpler and more organized.
What Can Tasks Do?
Tasks enable users to set reminders, request recurring information, and receive updates promptly. For example:
- Set Reminders: "Remind me when my passport expires in six months."
- Request Recurring Updates: "Give me the stock price of Apple every day at 9 a.m."
- Get News Briefings: "Deliver the latest news to me every morning at 7 a.m."

ChatGPT ensures that these tasks are managed efficiently by sending push notifications as reminders.
Why is Tasks a Big Deal?
This launch marks OpenAI's initial move towards developing AI agents that operate independently, acting as intelligent and capable assistants. Although Tasks is currently in beta and limited to ten tasks for paid users, it sets the stage for AI to handle complex workflows seamlessly in the future.
What would be your first task you'd set? Share your thoughts and use cases in the comments below!
My use cases would be:
- Remind me to spend an hour learning Python every morning at 8 AM with the code.
- Deliver the latest AI industry news every evening at 6:30 PM.

I’ll create a recurring daily reminder for both use cases.
