ChatGPT Returns to Italy After Temporary Ban

OpenAI: ChatGPT Back in Italy Following Regulator's Demands

San Francisco-based OpenAI has announced that its artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, is once again available to Italian users following the company's compliance with the demands of the country's data protection authority. The regulator imposed a temporary ban on the AI software amid concerns about privacy concerns over a possible data breach. OpenAI said it "addressed or clarified the issues" raised by the watchdog, and added information to its website about how it collects and uses data that trains the algorithms powering ChatGPT.

Generative AI systems like ChatGPT use vast amounts of online data to replicate human work. However, their rapid development has raised concerns about possible ethical and societal risks, and EU negotiators are working to update draft artificial intelligence regulations. Other regulators, including France’s data privacy regulator and Canada’s privacy commissioner, have launched investigations into the ChatGPT system.

Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini expressed his approval of ChatGPT’s return, saying that his League party “is committed to help start-ups and development in Italy.” ChatGPT's maker, OpenAI, said by email that it is dedicated to the privacy protection of its users.
