OpenAI is losing money on its pricey ChatGPT Pro subscription ...
According to a post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that the AI company is currently experiencing financial losses with its ChatGPT Pro subscription. Altman mentioned that the usage of the service has surpassed their initial expectations.
Subscription Details
The ChatGPT Pro subscription was launched by OpenAI in December. Priced at $200 per month, it offers users access to an enhanced version of the o1 reasoning model and the o1 pro mode. Additionally, there are no user restrictions on tools like the video generator Sora.
In another post, Altman explained that he personally set the pricing for ChatGPT Pro with the belief that it would generate revenue for the company. However, the significant costs associated with training the large language models (LLMs) used in generative AI tools have made it challenging for OpenAI to achieve profitability.
