OpenAI's ChatGPT faces massive outage with thousands of users
Microsoft-backed OpenAI's popular chatbot ChatGPT recently experienced a significant outage, impacting thousands of users. The company confirmed that the issues have been addressed, and access to the platform has been restored.
According to OpenAI, most users regained access by 4:34 p.m. PT on Saturday, with only a small number of customers experiencing lingering problems until 5 p.m. PT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the outage, stating that ChatGPT had been down for 30 minutes. He emphasized the company's commitment to improving reliability, despite the occasional setbacks.
Impact and Resolution
Outage tracking website Downdetector.com reported that ChatGPT's services were offline for approximately 30 minutes, affecting over 19,403 users. Despite the temporary disruption, OpenAI has since rectified the situation, ensuring that the majority of users can once again utilize the platform.
Significant Growth
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has amassed a substantial user base, with 250 million weekly active users. This surge in popularity has propelled OpenAI's valuation to an impressive $157 billion, marking a substantial increase from $14 billion in 2021. The company's revenues have also seen remarkable growth, reaching $3.6 billion from zero, surpassing Altman's earlier projections.
