Microsoft-backed OpenAI's popular chatbot ChatGPT experienced an outage that affected thousands of users, with access being restored shortly after. OpenAI confirmed the resolution of the issues, stating that most users regained access by 4:34 pm PT on Friday.
A small portion of customers continued to face problems until 5 pm, as mentioned by OpenAI. CEO Sam Altman also acknowledged the outage, revealing that ChatGPT had been down for 30 minutes. Altman expressed his commitment to improving reliability, despite the setback.
Impact of the outage
According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, the service interruption lasted approximately half an hour, impacting over 19,403 users. However, the downtime was swiftly addressed by the OpenAI team, ensuring minimal disruption to the platform's vast user base.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has garnered a significant following, boasting 250 million weekly active users. The success of the chatbot has propelled OpenAI's valuation to an impressive $157 billion, marking a substantial increase from $14 billion in 2021. The company's revenues have also seen a remarkable surge, reaching $3.6 billion from zero, surpassing initial projections.
