One Tech Tip: Don't want chatbots using your conversations for AI ...
Be cautious about what you share with chatbots, as your conversations could be utilized to enhance the artificial intelligence system they are based on. For instance, when seeking advice from ChatGPT regarding a sensitive medical issue, be aware that any information you provide might be used to refine OpenAI's algorithms supporting its AI models.
Google Gemini
Google's Gemini chatbot retains conversations with users age 18 and above by default for 18 months. This duration can be modified in the settings. Human reviewers also have access to these conversations to enhance the quality of the generative AI models powering Gemini. Users are advised against sharing confidential information with Gemini. To opt out, visit the Gemini website, go to the Activity tab, and click the Turn Off button. You can choose to stop recording future chats or delete past conversations. Do note that conversations selected for human review will not be deleted but stored separately.

For more information, you can visit Google's help page which also provides details for iPhone and Android app users.
Meta AI
Meta's AI chatbot on platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram is powered by open-source AI language models. While these models are trained on shared platform data and publicly available web data, personal messages are not included. Users in the EU and the UK have the option to object to their data being used to train Meta's AI systems. The Facebook privacy page offers a link to a form where users can object to data usage.

On the other hand, users in the US and other countries without stringent data privacy laws do not have this opt-out option. However, there is a form available where users can request that their data not be used for AI training by third parties.
Microsoft Copilot
Personal users do not have the option to opt out of Microsoft's Copilot chatbot. The best alternative is to delete interactions with Copilot through your Microsoft account settings.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT
Users with an OpenAI account can navigate to the Data controls section in the settings to disable the setting to "Improve the model for everyone." Even without an account, users can opt out of AI training by accessing settings through the web page. Mobile users can make the same choice on the ChatGPT Android and iOS apps. Chat history will still display conversations but they will not be used for training if the opt-out is selected.

OpenAI provides more information on data controls through its help page, explaining that opted-out conversations will be retained for 30 days and reviewed only if necessary to monitor abuse.
Grok
Anthropic AI's chatbot Claude does not use personal data for training by default. Users can provide "explicit permission" for specific responses to be used in training. The company also reserves the right to use flagged conversations for safety reviews to enforce rules.
