Google co-founder: Be in the office every weekday, work 60 hours a week
Google co-founder Sergey Brin recently communicated a message to the team responsible for the company's AI model Gemini. In the internal message, Brin emphasized the potential for Google to excel in AI development, suggesting that increased efforts from employees are essential.
In a statement quoted by The New York Times, Brin recommended a consistent presence in the office on all weekdays. He also proposed that working 60 hours per week can significantly enhance productivity.
Brin's Perspective on Work Ethic
While acknowledging the heightened risk of burnout associated with extended work hours, Brin expressed dissatisfaction with employees he perceives as not putting in enough effort. He stated, "Some people work less than 60 hours and some don’t put in more effort than they have to. The latter are not only unproductive but can also be very demoralizing for everyone else."
It remains unclear whether Brin adheres to his own recommendations by being present in the office on all weekdays and working 60 hours weekly. The report does not specify Brin's personal work schedule.
Impact on Google's Remote Work Policy
According to sources, Brin's directive is separate from Google's existing work-from-home policy, which mandates that employees must be in the office for a minimum of three days per week.
