Meta unveils video creation AI 'Movie Zen'… Competition with OpenAI and Google
Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platform (hereinafter referred to as Meta), introduced video creation AI and predicted competition with ChatGPT developer OpenAI and Google.
Introducing Movie Zen
Meta unveiled its video creation AI model ‘Movie Gen’ through its blog on the 4th (local time). ‘Movie Zen’ is an AI model that can create new videos of up to 16 seconds in length through text input. You can edit existing videos, create audio, and even use photos to create custom videos featuring real people.
Features of Movie Zen
Meta also released videos made using ‘Movie Zen’, including a hippo swimming underwater, a koala enjoying surfing, and an Antarctic penguin changing clothes. The AI model aims to enhance creativity for aspiring filmmakers and video creators by providing accessible tools for video editing and creation.
Encouraging Creativity
Connor Hayes, Vice President of Meta Generative AI Products, stated, “Our goal is to encourage more people to create or edit video posts.” Meta plans to make 'Movie Zen' available on its social media platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger in the near future.
Competition in the Industry
Meta mentioned that ‘Movie Zen’ outperformed similar models in the industry, targeting OpenAI’s ‘Sora’ and Google’s ‘Veo’. OpenAI's 'Sora' and Google's 'Veo' are also gearing up for public release, offering competition in the AI video creation space. Additionally, Runway, a video creation AI startup, launched ‘Gen-3 Alpha’, catering to content creators for marketing and advertising purposes.
