Introducing 'Memory' Feature in ChatGPT
OpenAI has rolled out a new feature for ChatGPT called 'Memory'. This latest addition enables the AI-driven chatbot to retain information from previous conversations, streamlining future interactions. With this update, users no longer need to repeat details to the chatbot, enhancing the overall chat experience.
Control Over Memories
According to OpenAI, users have complete control over the data stored by ChatGPT. This means individuals can instruct the AI chatbot to remember or forget specific information. Additionally, there is an option to disable the 'Memory' feature through a simple toggle switch.
Enhanced Conversations
During chats with ChatGPT, users can choose to have the chatbot memorize certain details or allow it to automatically store information from the dialogue. OpenAI suggests that the chatbot's performance improves as it retains more information from user interactions.
Evolution of Memories
OpenAI explains that ChatGPT's memories evolve based on interactions and are not limited to individual conversations. Even if a particular chat is deleted, the associated memory remains intact.
Managing Memory
To deactivate the feature, users can access ChatGPT on their preferred device, navigate to the app's 'Settings' menu, select 'Personalization', and toggle off the 'Memory' option. Users also have the ability to instruct ChatGPT to forget specific details or manually delete memories through the 'Manage Memory' section within the 'Personalization' settings.
Availability
Initially available to a select group of testers, OpenAI has now made the 'Memory' feature accessible to all ChatGPT Plus subscribers, excluding individuals in Europe and Korea. However, users in these regions may potentially bypass these limitations by utilizing a VPN.
