Apple plans to launch AI smart glasses by the end of 2026 and ...
PANews reported on May 23 that according to Bloomberg, Apple plans to release a pair of smart glasses equipped with a camera, microphone, and speaker in late 2026. These smart glasses will have the capability to execute voice commands through Siri. The device is expected to offer various functions such as analyzing the environment, making calls, playing music, providing real-time translation and navigation services. This upcoming product from Apple is seen as a direct competitor to Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Focus on Smart Glasses Development
While Apple is moving forward with the development of AI-powered smart glasses, they have decided to cancel the plans for the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra models that were supposed to come with cameras in 2027. However, Apple is still actively working on AirPods with integrated cameras. The company's long-term objective is to create glasses with augmented reality (AR) display capabilities, but the development of such advanced devices will require more time.
Project Leadership and Future Plans
The smart glasses project at Apple is being led by the Vision Products Group, which previously developed the Vision Pro headset. Additionally, the team is currently working on a lighter version of the headset that can be connected to a Mac. Apart from smart glasses, Apple is also gearing up to launch its first foldable phone by the end of 2026. Furthermore, the company intends to open up its large language model API to encourage the growth of the App Store AI ecosystem.
Overall, Apple's foray into AI smart glasses signifies a significant step towards integrating advanced technology into everyday wearable devices. The anticipated launch of these smart glasses by the end of 2026 is likely to reshape the landscape of wearable technology and AI integration in consumer products.
