Apple's Next-Gen Siri: More ChatGPT-Like Capabilities Expected by 2026
Apple is reportedly gearing up to unveil a significantly enhanced version of Siri, the virtual assistant known for its integration with Apple products. According to a report by Bloomberg, this upgraded Siri, internally referred to as "LLM Siri," is not anticipated to be launched until 2026.
Enhancements in the Pipeline
While Siri received a minor update with the introduction of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1, primarily improving responses across specific categories, Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting more substantial upgrades. The much-anticipated features, including enhanced on-screen awareness, were initially speculated for a 2025 release but now seem to be pushed back.
Anticipated Features of LLM Siri
Apple intends to reveal the advancements in Siri alongside iOS 19 and macOS 16 updates next year. However, the formal launch of LLM Siri is expected in spring 2026. This next-generation Siri is poised to deliver more human-like interactions and leverage App Intents, an Apple framework designed to enhance app discoverability within system experiences. The overarching objective is to equip Siri with advanced capabilities akin to those of ChatGPT, as highlighted in the Bloomberg report.
Upcoming iOS Updates
While the awaited Siri upgrade may be a few years away, users can look forward to the release of iOS 18.2, expected in December. This update is speculated to feature ChatGPT integration, aligning with OpenAI's efforts to introduce Advanced Voice Mode across various platforms, including recent integration on web browsers for premium members.
