Cook: ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence to launch on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia
Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed during the company’s Q3 2024 earnings call that ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence and Siri will be available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia before the end of the year.
Gradual Rollout of Apple Intelligence Features
Cook confirmed that Apple Intelligence features will be rolled out gradually, similar to the approach taken with the launch of the first iOS 18.1 beta. This includes the integration of ChatGPT, which is set to be available by the end of the calendar year. While it is unclear if ChatGPT will be part of the iOS 18.1 update, Cook's statement suggests that it will likely be included in a subsequent release, possibly iOS 18.2.
Apple previously launched iOS 17.2 on December 11, 2023. If iOS 18.2 with ChatGPT integration is released this December, it would fulfill Cook's recent announcement.
Apple Intelligence Features
Developers currently have access to Apple Intelligence features through the iOS 18.1 beta, including Writing Tools, Focus mode, Smart Reply, and text summarization in various apps. While features like Image Playground and Genmoji are not yet available, they could be included in the upcoming iOS 18.2 update.
More advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as the all-new Siri with enhanced personal context understanding and on-screen awareness, are expected to launch no earlier than spring 2025.
