Anil Kapoor only Indian actor to feature in Time magazine's latest list of influential people in AI
Recently, actor Anil Kapoor made headlines by becoming the only Indian actor to be included in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The list features renowned personalities such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Open AI CEO Sam Altman, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Apart from Anil Kapoor, Hollywood actor Scarlett Johansson is the only other artiste to be included in the prestigious list.
Anil Kapoor's Inclusion in the List
Anil Kapoor's presence on the list can be attributed to a case he filed in the Delhi High Court last year against the unauthorized use of his likeness by Artificial Intelligence. The court, in its judgment, prohibited the misuse of the actor's name, image, voice, and other persona attributes, including his iconic "jhakaas" catchphrase, for commercial purposes.

The court emphasized the importance of protecting individual personality rights and preventing the unauthorized exploitation of celebrity rights for commercial gain. It underscored the impact of misuse on a celebrity's right to endorsements and the potential damage to their reputation and fame.
Scarlett Johansson's Legal Battle
Scarlett Johansson's presence on the list stems from her legal dispute with OpenAI regarding the use of a voice similar to hers for their chatbot. Following Scarlett's refusal to voice the chatbot, OpenAI released a voice that closely resembled hers, leading to confusion among her friends and the media.
OpenAI denied that the voice was inspired by Scarlett Johansson and clarified that it was recorded by a different actor. However, the company decided to remove the voice of the chatbot due to the public backlash and accusations of unethical behavior.
The incident sparked discussions about the protection of individuals' likeness and identities in the age of deepfakes. Senator Brian Schatz called for regulation to safeguard the right to one's image and voice, highlighting the need for public awareness and education on detecting deepfakes.
Upcoming Projects
While Anil Kapoor is gearing up for his upcoming project "Subedaar" directed by Suresh Triveni, Scarlett Johansson is set to star in "Jurassic World: Rebirth." Anil Kapoor's recognition in Time magazine's list and Scarlett Johansson's legal battle underscore the intersection of celebrity, technology, and the evolving challenges of protecting individual rights in the digital age.
