Beer made with ChatGPT Wins People's Choice at Saskatoon Brewery

A brewery in Saskatoon, Nine Mile Legacy Brewing, recently used ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence program, to generate a new beer recipe for their menu. While the program did need some adjustments from assistant brewer Luke Clark to make it drinkable, it successfully created a new beer called 'ROBOTS'. The program had to be refreshed with alterations five or six times before it produced a usable recipe, as the initial brews it generated had alcohol content of up to 40%.

The head brewer and co-founder of the business, Garrett Pederson, created a recipe called 'HUMANS' for a brew-off competition against 'ROBOTS' for a people's choice award. But 'ROBOTS' won.

The brewery used ChatGPT for the first time as a business tool, and Pederson said the event was a fun learning experience. He added that the program streamlines the process of answering questions and can provide a quick answer, but can be customized to match the experiences and knowledge of the user.

Nine Mile Legacy confirmed that a second brew-off is being planned, but the date is yet to be set in stone. The two recipes have been packaged together and are being sold in Co-op, Sobeys, Urban Cellars, and the brewery's taproom on 20th Street for Saskatoon residents who want to try the two beers side-by-side.
