AI Shopping Trends in the UK
According to a survey conducted by the financial technology platform Adyen, more than a third of UK consumers, which is a 39% increase from the previous year, now use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist them in their shopping endeavors.
The annual Retail Report revealed that 35% of consumers have incorporated AI into their shopping routines. Among AI users, 56% stated that AI inspired their purchasing decisions, while 51% mentioned that AI helped them navigate through the vast amount of information available online.
Demographic Insights
While the adoption of AI in shopping is on the rise across all age groups, individuals aged 44 to 59 exhibited the most significant increase over the past year. On the other hand, only 15% of those aged 60 and above reported using AI for shopping, in contrast to 54% of 16 to 27-year-olds and 51% of 28 to 43-year-olds.
Two-thirds of UK consumers acknowledged that retailers might utilize AI to recommend products to them, showcasing a growing awareness and acceptance of AI technology in shopping experiences.
Retailer Investments in AI
Interestingly, 35% of UK retailers expressed their intentions to invest in AI to enhance their sales and marketing strategies, highlighting the significant role AI is playing in the retail sector.
Moreover, the study also noted that nearly a third of UK consumers (30%) utilize social media platforms for their shopping needs. Despite the increasing popularity of online shopping, 30% of shoppers still prefer physical stores, emphasizing the importance of the in-store experience.
Consumer Preferences
When it comes to making purchases, 44% of consumers prefer to see and feel the product before buying, while 41% enjoy trying on items. Additionally, 33% of shoppers prefer to leave the store with the product in hand immediately after purchase.
The survey, conducted by Censuswide, polled 2,000 UK adults between February 26 and March 12, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI in the retail industry.
