Joelle Pineau, the vice-president leading Meta’s Fundamental AI Research group, known as Fair, has announced her departure, leaving a leadership gap in the AI race. Pineau has been with the company for eight years and has overseen the Fair team since early 2023.
AI Research Chief's Departure
Pineau's departure was announced on Tuesday, revealing that she reports to chief product officer Chris Cox. Her group at Meta is responsible for managing AI research endeavors, including projects related to voice translation, image-recognition technology, and the development of the company's open-source large language model known as Llama.
In addition to these areas, the Fair team also delves into the exploration of "advanced machine intelligence", aiming to achieve human-level intelligence for machines.
