Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will release a series of AI-enhanced laptop PCs
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are set to launch a new range of laptop PCs with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities just in time for the upcoming semester. These innovative devices will feature 'On-Device AI', enabling users to leverage AI functionalities without the need for an internet connection.
Samsung Electronics
Samsung Electronics recently unveiled the "Galaxy Book 5 Pro", which will be available for purchase starting on the 2nd of this month. This sleek laptop is powered by 'Galaxy AI', Samsung's proprietary on-device AI technology. One of its key features is 'AI Select', allowing users to interact with the monitor using hand gestures similar to a smartphone. Additionally, users can perform image searches by drawing or circling objects directly on the screen without typing search terms.
Furthermore, the on-device AI capabilities can be seamlessly integrated with various mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, enhancing the overall user experience. Customers purchasing the 'Galaxy Book 5 Pro' or 'Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360' will also receive 'MS Office Home 2024' to boost academic productivity. To sweeten the deal, Samsung Electronics is offering a 'Compensation by Changing to AI' promotion until March 31st, providing additional benefits for customers trading in their existing laptops or tablets.
LG Electronics
On the other hand, LG Electronics is set to introduce its 2025 LG Gram lineup at the prestigious 'CES 2025' exhibition. The 2025 LG Gram laptops will feature a versatile "multi-AI" function, allowing users to choose between on-device AI and cloud AI solutions based on their requirements. Unlike Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics refrains from producing its own smart devices, offering users the flexibility to select from various AI environments.
The on-device AI solution, 'gram chat on-device', enables AI operations on the laptop without an internet connection, ensuring data security. Features like 'Time Travel' and 'AI Search' enhance productivity by retrieving lost data and searching through stored files effortlessly. On the other hand, 'Gram Chat Cloud' utilizes cloud-based AI to tackle complex tasks using open AI's 'GPT-4o' language model. LG Gram buyers will enjoy a one-year free subscription to Gram Chat Cloud, with details on future fees yet to be finalized.
It's worth noting that Apple has also integrated its AI function, Apple Intelligence, into the MacBook operating system "Sequire 15.1" released last year, further intensifying the competition in the AI-powered laptop market.
