While these glasses may not be as advanced as a Star Trek universal translator, they offer impressive capabilities with Meta AI integration. Users in the mentioned countries also have access to the live translation feature, supporting French, Italian, Spanish, and English languages.

Live Translation Feature

To activate or deactivate the live translation feature, users can simply say “Hey Meta, start live translation” or “Hey Meta, stop live translation”. The Meta Help pages indicate that users will need to utilize the Meta View app to adjust the languages for translation.

Real-Time Responses and Expansion

In addition to live translations, Meta is introducing real-time responses for users in all supported EU countries. This feature allows users to ask Meta AI about objects directly in their view and receive immediate responses. Previously, Ray-Ban Meta glasses with Meta AI were available in France, Italy, Ireland, and Spain without this capability, which was already present in the US, Australia, and Canada.

The European Union market is seen as a natural fit for Ray-Ban glasses due to higher income levels, though stringent regulations in the EU can pose challenges for product launches. Despite this, Meta has worked to comply with these regulations and plans to expand to other parts of the EU in the future.
