WhatsApp beta brings Channel categories to the search bar
WhatsApp betas give us a sneak peek into upcoming features, some of which may not make it to the stable version. However, features aimed at enhancing existing functionality usually get implemented. Recently, a WhatsApp beta hinted at a revamp in how users search for new Channels with the introduction of categories. A subsequent update has now shed more light on this development.
Categories as Filters
The ever-dependable WABetaInfo has revealed that the newly introduced categories for Channels will now also serve as filters in the search bar. This enhancement is part of WhatsApp beta version 2.24.10.20 for Android. Users will have seven categories at their disposal to streamline their search, with the search results displaying all matching Channels in the chosen category.
The addition of these seven categories to refine Channel search was initially disclosed in the previous beta release. The new development is the integration of these categories into the search bar as filters.
This update is set to make it more convenient for users to search for Channels in preferred categories, with options such as Business, Entertainment, Lifestyle, News & Information, Organizations, People, and Sports. To check if this feature is active on your Android smartphone, navigate to the Updates tab, click on the See all button next to Find channels, and tap the search bar.
Other Beta Updates
Aside from the improved Channel search feature, the latest beta version (v2.24.10.22) has unveiled an under-development drawing editor with significant upgrades, including new brushes and 24 preset shades. Additionally, an earlier beta update showcased a revamped voice call UI in the top app bar, featuring new buttons for muting or ending calls, providing users with quick access to these functions even when outside the app.
