Meta AI Rollout in Italy and EU
US tech giant Meta announced on Thursday that it would be rolling out its AI chat function tool in Italy and the European Union. The Meta AI will soon be available within Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger platforms.
This chat function will be offered in six European languages, including Italian.
The decision to introduce Meta AI in Europe comes after facing a delay when the Irish data protection authority halted the release in June 2024. The authority raised concerns about Meta's intention to use EU users' data from Facebook and Instagram to train its AI systems.
Meta mentioned that the process of bringing its AI technology to Europe took longer than anticipated due to navigating a complex legislative system. The company clarified that Meta AI is not trained on data collected from European users of its applications.
Initially launched in the United States in 2023, Meta AI will now be rolled out in 41 European countries, including EU member states and 21 European overseas territories.
