Zuckerberg launches standalone Meta AI app
USDevelopers are enthusiastic about the release of Meta's new standalone AI assistant app, which was revealed by the social media giant on Tuesday. This move is seen as a direct challenge to ChatGPT, offering users a more direct route to access Meta's generative artificial intelligence models.
In a video shared on Instagram, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Meta, announced the launch of the app, stating, "A billion people are using Meta AI across our apps now, so we made a new standalone Meta AI app for you to check out."
Personalized AI Experience
Zuckerberg emphasized that the app is tailored to be a personal AI assistant for users, with a focus on voice interactions that are personalized to individual users. He mentioned that initially, the app will provide basic information about users' interests, but over time, it will become more adept at understanding users and the people they care about.
Social Media Integration
Reflecting Meta's social media roots, the app includes a social feed where users can view AI-generated posts from other users. This feature is designed to foster a learning environment where users can share prompts and art, creating an engaging experience.
Enhanced Connectivity
The new Meta AI app also serves as a replacement for Meta View in conjunction with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This seamless integration allows for fluid conversations across various platforms, including glasses, mobile apps, and desktop interfaces.
Chris Cox, Meta's chief product officer, highlighted the focus on providing a natural user interface, particularly through voice interactions. He emphasized the immersive experience, akin to a real dialogue with interruptions and natural elements like laughter.
Personalized Learning
While the app currently does not support web searches, users have the option to enable Meta AI to learn more about them based on their activity on Instagram or Facebook. This includes remembering important details like family members' names and special dates to enhance the assistant's capabilities.
Open-Source AI Model
Meta showcased the benefits of its Llama AI model at a recent developer event, highlighting its open-source nature that allows developers to customize key aspects of the software to suit their requirements. This flexibility empowers developers to harness the full potential of Meta's AI technology.
Zuckerberg expressed excitement about the possibilities that the open-source model offers to developers, providing them with the tools to create tailored solutions using Meta's intelligence.
