Facebook tests Meta AI on private camera roll photos - Technobaboy
Facebook is currently running a test on a new feature that allows Meta AI to access photos stored on your device, even those that you haven't shared yet. According to Tech Crunch, this feature is triggered when creating a Story. A prompt appears, giving you the option to enable "cloud processing," which involves uploading selected photos to Meta's servers. By agreeing to this, Meta AI can provide suggestions such as collages, themed recaps, or AI-enhanced versions of your images.
Data Usage and Privacy
Meta assures that these AI-driven suggestions are only visible to you and won't be utilized for advertising purposes. However, by opting in, users agree to Meta's AI Terms of Service, allowing the company to analyze faces, objects, and other elements within the photos. Currently, this test is limited to users in the US and Canada. Those included in the test can manage this feature in Facebook's settings under "Camera roll sharing suggestions." The option to disable both photo recommendations and cloud processing is available at any time.
Privacy Concerns
This test grants Meta access to more personal content than ever before, sparking concerns regarding privacy and the utilization of AI in handling user data. While the feature remains optional, it emphasizes the ongoing issue of user control over their data as AI technologies become increasingly prevalent.
