Google Gemini can now summarize PDFs for you
Google has introduced its artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Gemini, to Workspace users, enabling them to easily extract information from PDFs and Google Forms. The new file summarization capabilities aim to condense crucial details and insights into a more manageable format, eliminating the need for manual searching through documents.
Enhanced Functionality
When a user accesses a PDF in their Google Drive, Gemini AI automatically generates summary cards. These cards offer clickable actions based on the document's content, such as "draft a sample proposal" or "list interview questions from this resume." By clicking on these options, users can prompt Gemini to perform the task within the Drive side panel. The feature supports over 20 languages and is gradually being rolled out to users.

Form Assistance
Gemini AI also aids in summarizing responses to short-answer or paragraph questions in Google Forms. The summaries consider the form's title, description, questions, and responses to highlight key themes and insights. This functionality is triggered when questions receive more than three responses, though it's currently only available in English. Workspace users can expect general availability by June 26.
Creation Tool
In addition to summarization, Gemini AI provides a "help me create" feature in Google Forms. This tool automatically generates forms based on user input and can incorporate information from supporting Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs. For example, a carpentry business could import its product catalog and create a quote estimation form for clients using this feature. The "help me create" tool will be accessible in English from July 7 onwards.
