Google Meet's 'Take notes with Gemini' feature may soon land on mobile phones
Last month, Google Meet on the web introduced a new feature called "Take notes for me," powered by Gemini. This feature not only transcribes but also summarizes meetings and discussions in real time, providing detailed notes beyond text-to-speech conversion of your meetings.
Currently, the feature is exclusively available on the Google Meet web version. However, there are indications that Google is in the process of bringing this Gemini AI-powered feature to mobile phones as well. An APK Teardown post revealed multiple code strings related to "Take notes for me" or "Take notes with Gemini" in the Gmail app for Android version 2024.09.08.673958928.
Code Strings Found:
- Continue taking notes: A new document will be created and saved in {OWNER_NAME}'s Drive
- Take notes with Gemini: Provides a recap of the meeting conversation backed by a transcript
- Language Support: Gemini can currently take notes in English
The upcoming Google Meet "take notes with Gemini" feature on mobile is expected to function similarly to the web version. According to Android Authority, the mobile feature will automatically transcribe meetings, create full transcripts, and add them to shared meeting notes. It is also likely to integrate with Google Calendar and Google Drive for easier note saving and sharing.

Language Support and Access:
During conversations, Google Meet may notify users with prompts like "Gemini is taking notes." Initially, the "take notes with Gemini" feature will only support English, with potential support for other languages in the future.

Currently, the web version of Google Meet's "take notes with Gemini" feature is restricted to Google Workspace customers with specific add-ons. However, there are indications that Google might make this feature available to the general public, including the mobile version.
