Home / Gadgets / Meta Teams Up With Oakley to Launch High-Performance AI Glasses
Introduction
Tech giant Meta has partnered with American sportswear brand Oakley to introduce the new Oakley Meta HSTN. This collaboration represents Meta’s second venture into AI eyewear, with the previous one being the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. While the Ray-Bans catered to lifestyle consumers, the Oakley Meta series is targeting athletes, evident from the marketing strategy and endorsements by sports icons like Kylian Mbappé and Patrick Mahomes.
Features
The Oakley Meta HSTN is equipped with a high-resolution built-in camera capable of shooting in 3K Ultra HD. However, the maximum recording time is limited to three minutes. For capturing photos, there is a dedicated button on the glasses' arms for convenience. Additionally, the glasses boast an IPX4 water resistance rating, suitable for various environments.
Meta AI Integration
Incorporating Meta AI, the glasses feature a voice-controlled AI assistant that users can activate hands-free. Wearers can interact with the assistant to ask questions, record videos, capture photos, and share them instantly via platforms like WhatsApp. The glasses also include open-ear speakers with integrated volume controls along the arms, providing a seamless user experience.
Battery Life and Charging
According to Meta, a fully charged pair of Oakley Meta HSTN glasses can last up to eight hours with typical usage and offers 19 hours of standby time. The glasses come with a charging case that extends the battery life by up to 48 hours, ensuring prolonged usability on the go.
Availability and Pricing
As the availability of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses was limited, the official launch of Oakley Meta models in certain regions like Malaysia remains uncertain. The Oakley Meta HSTN is priced at USD 499 (approximately RM2,135.72) and may require alternative purchasing methods through third-party sellers or international shipping.
