Ray-Ban Meta glasses can now use AI to describe what you are seeing
StoryMeta is enhancing the features of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with a new AI function known as Detailed Responses. This innovative feature leverages the device's built-in camera and Meta AI technology to offer users more detailed information about their surroundings. The introduction of this feature coincides with Global Accessibility Awareness Day and complements the expansion of the Call a Volunteer feature.
New Detailed Responses Feature
The latest addition to Ray-Ban Meta, the Detailed Responses feature, is designed to deliver a hands-free experience for users of the smart glasses. By utilizing Meta AI, this feature provides users with in-depth and contextually relevant descriptions of the objects they are looking at. This functionality is particularly beneficial for individuals with visual impairments who rely on auditory cues to navigate their environment.
Users can enable the Detailed Responses feature by accessing the Accessibility settings in the Meta AI app and toggling on the "Detailed Responses" option. In a demonstration video released by StoryMeta, the Ray-Ban Meta showcases its ability to describe a waterside park, highlighting details such as well-manicured grassy areas, trees, and walking paths, going beyond basic object recognition.
Global Rollout
StoryMeta will be introducing the Detailed Responses feature in the U.S. and Canada in the upcoming week, with plans to extend its availability to other countries in the future. While specific timelines and regions were not disclosed, the company is committed to making this feature accessible to a global audience.
Call a Volunteer Expansion
In addition to the Detailed Responses feature, StoryMeta has also announced the wider deployment of its Call a Volunteer functionality, developed in collaboration with the Be My Eyes organization. Initially launched in select markets, this AI-powered feature will now be accessible in all 18 countries supported by Meta AI.
Enhancing Accessibility
StoryMeta's focus on enhancing the usability of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses for visually impaired users underscores its commitment to inclusivity. The hands-free design of the glasses, coupled with Meta AI integrations, not only benefits all users in their daily activities but also caters specifically to the blind and visually impaired community.
Launched in 2023, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses come equipped with a range of smart features, including open-ear speakers, a built-in camera, and voice-enabled Meta AI support. Users can capture photos, record videos, send messages, translate speech in real-time, and interact with the Meta AI assistant seamlessly.
Global Availability
Continuing its global expansion, Meta recently introduced the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India, with prices starting at Rs 29,900. The smart glasses are set to hit the market on 17th June, providing users with an innovative and accessible smart eyewear option.
