Google Lens now lets you search with your voice and images ...
A recent update to Google Lens has introduced a new feature that allows users to add voice recordings to image searches, providing important context to inquiries. This update was discovered by Android Police, who noticed a new glow animation on the app. By tapping on the magnifying glass icon, a "Search with Voice" tooltip appears, prompting users to speak a command or ask a question. The spoken words are then displayed as floating text on the screen, and Google Lens incorporates this information into its search.
Voice Search in Action
Android expert Mishaal Rahman demonstrated this feature by asking Google Lens to count the number of blueberries on his plate. The inquiries are then displayed on Google Search, where an AI Overview, known as Gemini, attempts to provide an answer.
While the feature works well for the most part, there are instances where Google Lens may not provide accurate responses. In our tests, we found mixed results ranging from successfully identifying objects to struggling with counting specific items like buttons on a controller. Despite occasional hiccups, the update showcases a quick turnaround in functionality.
Availability and Installation
According to Android Police, the update is being rolled out server-side and should already be available on all Android smartphones. However, if you do not see the feature, ensure that you have the latest updates for both Google Search and Lens apps installed on your device.
