Automated Email Summarisation with Gemini
Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, has recently introduced a new feature that allows for automatic summarisation of lengthy emails. This innovative tool now presents email summary cards at the top of emails without the need for users to manually click any options.
Last year, Google launched Gemini within the Gmail side panel, offering users various tools such as email drafting assistance. The latest enhancement, known as email summary cards, showcases Gemini’s ability to condense the key points from extensive email threads and update the summary as new replies are received.
Concerns and Reliability
Despite the convenience of this AI-powered feature, some users have expressed apprehensions about its reliability. Instances of errors in Google’s AI Overviews and summaries have led to critique from users.
Customisable Settings
Users have the flexibility to enable or disable the email summary cards feature, which may be turned off by default in certain regions like the EU, UK, Switzerland, and Japan. Access to this setting can be managed under Gmail’s “Smart features,” with workplace administrators having control over access through the Admin console.
It is important to note that this feature is currently available only for emails written in the English language.
