Meta AI to get a standalone app, launch ChatGPT-like premium...
Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is gearing up to introduce a separate identity for its AI offering with an exclusive standalone app, as reported by CNBC. Currently, the Meta AI is only accessible within Meta's suite of apps, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
Standalone Meta AI App Launch
According to reports, Meta is set to unveil the new standalone Meta AI app in the second quarter, marking a significant milestone in CEO Mark Zuckerberg's ambition to position his company as a frontrunner in AI capabilities by the year's end. During an earnings call in January, Zuckerberg expressed his anticipation for the widespread adoption of a highly intelligent and personalized AI assistant, with Meta AI poised to be at the forefront. 
Interestingly, Meta's decision to segregate its AI with a standalone app mirrors a similar strategy by Elon Musk's xAI. The Musk-led company recently launched an independent iOS app and has plans to introduce an Android counterpart soon.
Introduction of Paid Subscription
Additionally, Meta AI is reportedly exploring the introduction of a new paid subscription model for Meta. This subscription could offer users access to a more robust version of its chatbot in exchange for a monthly fee, akin to models deployed by OpenAI and xAI.
Despite facing fierce competition in the AI landscape, Meta AI has distinguished itself by providing leading features such as text-to-image generation and voice mode without imposing paywalls. However, with the emergence of open-source alternatives like China's DeepSeek AI gaining traction, Meta is contemplating diversified revenue streams beyond its social media platforms.
Intensifying AI Race
The AI arena is witnessing heightened competition, with consecutive launches following the surge in popularity of DeepSeek's cost-effective AI models in January. Subsequently, OpenAI unveiled its o3 Mini reasoning model and AI agent Deep Research, Grok introduced the Grok 3 pre-trained model, reasoning model, and Deep Search tool, while Anthropic debuted its latest Claude 3.7 Sonnet model.
