10 Innovative AI Features Coming to iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia

Apple likely to integrate Google's Gemini AI into iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia

Apple recently announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, unveiling plans to empower users with enhanced AI capabilities in iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. This collaboration aims to leverage Apple's in-house Apple Intelligence to introduce a range of innovative AI features for users. In addition to Apple's native AI, users will also have the opportunity to harness the power of ChatGPT for further AI insights.

Expanding AI Ecosystem

Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software engineering, emphasized the company's commitment to integrating a diverse range of AI chatbots with the upcoming iOS 18 and MacOS Sequoia updates. Notably, Apple is actively engaging with leading AI technology providers such as Google and Anthropic to incorporate their AI solutions into Apple's ecosystem.

Apple's iOS 18 may be powered by Google Gemini AI

In a recent newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is in advanced discussions with Google to integrate Google's Gemini AI into its platforms. This collaboration is expected to significantly enhance Apple's AI capabilities, offering users a more comprehensive set of AI-powered functionalities.

Partnership Dynamics

While earlier speculations hinted at a potential collaboration with Meta for integrating Llama chatbot into Apple's offerings, Gurman indicated that this partnership is unlikely to materialize. Despite preliminary discussions between the two companies, Apple has decided not to integrate Meta's services into its platforms.

Apple Intelligence is slated to make its debut later this year as part of the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates. Initially focused on US English, this feature will be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac models equipped with the M1 chip or newer iterations. Apple plans to extend support for additional languages over time, broadening the accessibility of its advanced AI features.

Advanced AI Capabilities

Apple Intelligence harnesses a blend of on-device and online language models to execute various tasks, ranging from answering queries to generating images. To manage AI requests effectively, Apple has developed a Private Cloud Compute (PCC) server that processes data and ensures complete data deletion post-task completion, maintaining stringent data privacy standards. Moreover, Apple emphasizes end-to-end encryption to safeguard user data during transmission to the validated PCC node.
