Google Search AI Overviews testing new Gemini animation
Google is currently testing a new Gemini-aligned loading animation for AI Overviews in Search, which is more visually striking compared to the current version. When loading, AI Overviews display the messages “Searching…” initially, followed by “Generating…” with blue lines of text appearing just before the text is fully loaded. The new animation includes a Gemini sparkle accompanied by “AI Overview” or beaker with “Search Labs | AI Overview” for users in the beta program.
Latest Updates
Recent tests in Search Labs show an animation that starts with “Generating…” in the top-left corner, followed by “Looking this up” further down the page, and then “Putting it all together.” A blue and purple spotlight pulses through the rectangular container, creating a more explicit connection between AI Overviews and Gemini. A similar glow effect is also observed around the Gemini overlay on Android and in Gemini Live.
Gemini 2.0 Integration
The label at the top of the animation states, “Generative AI is experimental,” reminiscent of the early days of AI Overviews. While this could simply be a new animation, some speculate that the refreshed look coincides with Gemini 2.0. Earlier this month, Google commenced testing the new model for AI Overviews in Search. Gemini 2.0 is expected to offer “advanced reasoning capabilities” to handle more complex topics, multi-step questions, advanced math equations, multimodal queries, and coding. The broader rollout is anticipated early next year, explaining the badge and the slightly slower loading speed compared to the stable version.
Although there are several reports about this new animation, it has not been rolled out to all users at this time.
