JustosNews Into the WorldGemini Live is one of the stars of the Google Pixel 9 series and brings a new “more human” conversation model to Google’s powerful AI assistant. Gemini Live offers 10 different voices that all sound extremely human, with impressively accurate intonation, natural pauses, and other human-like speech qualities.

But while it is fun to experiment and chat with an AI model, many of us have wondered what it could actually be like useful in our daily lives, so I wanted to use it to solve one of my biggest problems during the week: making a shopping list. You see, I Love Cooking. Always have. It’s a great way for me to relax after work while getting good food. But to get to that point, I need to have the list and ingredients to make it. Since I can’t afford a human personal assistant, maybe Gemini could take on that burden. It turns out that’s at least partially true.
Chatting with Gemini Live While Cooking
For this article, I have re-recorded the chat above so you can get an idea of what the original chat sounded like. In the original test, I left the Google Pixel 9 Pro on my counter and talked to Gemini Live while I made dinner. While I don’t have a large kitchen, I wasn’t hunched over the phone during the experiment. Rather, the idea was that I wanted to talk to Gemini Live as if it were a real person while I cooked dinner for the family.

I was pretty speechless (not literally) at how impressive Gemini Live’s conversational capabilities were. Not only did the AI model hear me perfectly despite the food being chopped and cooked, but it also didn’t randomly pause when there was a noise.
Creating a Meal Plan with Gemini Live
I started by asking Gemini to create a meal plan for the week that included three meals a day plus three snacks. I specified that I wanted a keto-friendly diet that was low in carbs and high in protein, and then I let it be known that I preferred not to eat oats or soy or drink protein shakes. It’s a complicated list, but someone has to create it.
Shopping List Request
After requesting a shopping list for the meal plan, Gemini asked me about food allergies so it can create a good list. I decided not to add yogurt to the allergen list just to make sure nothing I can’t eat gets added to the list. Better safe than sorry.
