Gemini Gets a Splash of Google's Signature Rainbow, but Some Apps ...
Google has just updated the icon of its Gemini app on its Google Play Store listing and X account. The new icon does away with the blue and purple-themed star, replacing it with a rainbow-themed star to match the rest of the Google suite of apps.
The new Gemini icon reflects Google's multi-colored theme, dominated by red, blue, green, and yellow, which has been prominent since the earliest days of the company. This change follows Google's recent update to its "G" logo back in May 2025, which introduced a blurred transition. Similarly, the new Gemini icon features a predominant blue color blending into red, yellow, and green on the left side.
Embracing AI in Design
The update to the Gemini icon aligns with Google's gradual embrace of AI technology across its products. As Google continues to integrate AI in search and various other services, the refreshed icon reflects the company's comfort with products like Gemini.
While the new Gemini icon is already visible on the Play Store and Gemini account, it may take some time to appear in other locations such as the website's favicon or on Android devices. Users can expect to see this change gradually roll out in the coming days or weeks.
Despite the visual update, the functionality of the Gemini app remains unaffected. The refreshed icon simply brings a new aesthetic to the app without altering its core features.
Are there any other apps in the Google ecosystem that you think need a similar Google-themed redesign?
