Google Drive gets some great new upgrades, improved sync speeds
Google Drive is receiving significant upgrades, with the introduction of differential uploads for Drive for desktop on Mac and Windows. This new feature means that only the changes made to a file will be uploaded, rather than the entire file. As a result, users can expect faster sync times, particularly when working with large files.
But that's not all - Google has also enabled instant video playback for videos uploaded to Drive on the web. This means you can watch your videos immediately after uploading them, without having to wait for processing. This change will surely be a relief for many users who have experienced delays in the past.
AI Integration
Google continues to enhance Drive with its Gemini technology. The latest update brings Gemini to the overlay file previewer for PDFs. With this integration, users can quickly summarize, transform, and switch between multiple files without leaving the previewer. Look for the Gemini icon in the top-right corner to access these features.
It's worth noting that this new Gemini integration differs from the existing integration in the full PDF viewer. When opening a PDF in Drive, it will now default to the overlay previewer. Users who prefer to open PDFs in a new tab can adjust this setting in their Drive preferences.
These new Gemini features are currently available to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium users, as well as Google One AI Premium subscribers. With improved sync speeds, instant video playback, and the power of Gemini, Google Drive is becoming an even more essential tool for both personal and professional use.
