Meta updates smart glasses with live AI function
Meta has recently announced several new AI-powered upgrades for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. These upgrades include the ability to engage in ongoing conversations and to seamlessly translate between different languages.
With the latest update unveiled on Monday, Meta has emerged as one of the pioneering tech giants to introduce real-time AI video on smart glasses. Owners of Ray-Ban Meta glasses who are part of Meta’s early access program in the United States and Canada can now upgrade to firmware v11, which includes the feature of "live AI". This new functionality aims to enhance the user experience significantly.
Live Translation Feature
One of the key highlights of firmware v11 is the introduction of live translation. This feature enables Ray-Ban Meta wearers to translate speech in real time between English and other languages such as Spanish, French, or Italian. When communicating with someone speaking these languages, the wearer will hear the translated version in English through the glasses’ open-ear speakers. Additionally, they will receive a transcript of the conversation on their paired phone for reference.
Live AI for Improved Interaction
Initially revealed earlier this year, the live AI feature allows wearers to engage in continuous conversations with Meta’s AI assistant, Meta AI. This functionality enables users to conveniently refer back to previous discussions during an ongoing conversation. Moreover, live AI seamlessly integrates with real-time video, allowing wearers to ask questions about their surroundings while receiving instant information.
