According to Zuckerberg, the new wearable technology will involve consumer neural interfaces that can read neural signals sent through nerves to the hand. This technology will allow subtle movements to control glasses or other computing devices. However, Zuckerberg clarified that this device will not be implanted in the brain but worn on the wrist.
Zuckerberg mentioned that the development of this innovative wearable device is still in its early stages, with the first version yet to be released. He expressed excitement about the internal testing of the product, describing it as "really cool."
Earlier in 2024, it was reported that Apple is also working on a similar wearable electronic device, specifically designed for its AirPods. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published an application by Apple in January 2023, detailing a wearable electronic device that can sense biosignals, including the electrical activity of a user's brain.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the development of this wearable device, speculation suggests that the AirPods 4 may be launched in the upcoming fall season.
